Exploring K-Art & Culture: Najeon at Seoul Museum of Craft Art

Saturday, July 15 2023 @ 10:50 am - 2:00 pm

Free

There’s always something exciting happening at SIWA with our wide range of activities including the exploration of Seoul’s buzzing urban art scene. We do this for a positive impact on our diverse community and to shape our perspectives through arts and culture.

We will begin our journey at the Seoul Museum of Craft Art (SeMoCA) located in Jongno, central Seoul. SeMoCA is the country’s first national museum dedicated to Korean craft art. The museum shows the invaluable beauty of Korean craftworks including Korea’s designated treasures.

The exhibition we will visit is an introduction to the modern modern and contemporary craftsmen of the famous Korean Najeon or Mother-of-pearl lacquerware. SeMOCA is able to hold this special exhibition thanks to the generous donation of over 4,500 materials related to Najeon drawings from Kim Tae-hee and Min Jong-tae.

Take a journey with us to explore and trace the history, mother of pearl in inlaying techniques and appreciate the passion and endeavors of masters introduced in the exhibition.

At last we will visit the nearby Osulloc Tea house in Bukchon, where you can enjoy South Korea’s most famous tea, its signature blends and cakes, biscuits, and other delicacies made with tea.
